When it comes to home organization, tackling your bedroom closet is perhaps one of the most difficult yet satisfying tasks. Starting your morning by walking into an extremely disorganized closet can set you up for a stressful and unsuccessful day. No one wants to spend twenty minutes attempting to find their work shirt amongst a sea of homeless fabrics.
Here are a few easy ways to successfully organize your closet!
Empty and Deep Clean
Your first move is to take everything out of your closet. Start with a blank slate and find some hidden treasures that have likely been buried deep in the corners. You need a clear, clean space to plan and visualize how you will re-organize your closet.
After removing everything, including hangers and storage bins, perform a deep clean of the space. Dust and vacuum or sweep and mop your closet floor. Wipe down any shelving, hanging rods, baseboards, and walls with an all-purpose cleaner.
Organize and Declutter
Go through your clothes, shoes, and accessories and divide them into separate piles. Decide if you want to keep, donate, sell, or throw out items that are beyond repair and put them in their respective piles. It’s important to be practical when decluttering your closet. Ask yourself, do I wear this item enough to keep it? Is this item salvageable? Does this item fit my current style?
If you’re having a hard time, creating a “maybe” pile might be beneficial. Put your maybe pile into a bin and revisit it one, three, or six months later. If you forgot about these items or never thought about wearing them, you can donate or sell them.
